13 Feb Cyalume is the only lightstick supplier to be compliant with REACH regulation
Cyalume recently won the NATO contract for the supply of chemical light products, which reinforces and underlines its position of leader in this market. Beside continuous R&D efforts, one reason for this success is that the Cyalume chemiluminescent products are the only chemical light products to be compliant with REACH regulations. All the chemical substances contained in our products have been declared and registered within the granted deadline for the registration according to the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical Substances (REACH) Regulation (EC) 1907/2006 entered into force on the 1st of June 2007. For more information you can look at our pages on REACH regulation or visit the website of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) available in differnt foreign languages.
The deadline for registration of a substance in the tonnage band between 1 and 100 tons manufactured or imported in the EU per year was May 31, 2018. We are the only manufacturer today to have registered on ECHA the only substance known to be essential to the chemical light technology in order to be compliant with REACH regulation. Cyalume also registered other substances contained in our products.
In a lightstick or a chemical lighting marker such as a 6 inch lightstick (15cm) containing 10 ml of chemicals, there are at least 3 substances that will fall under the REACH registration obligation for any importer or manufacturer of chemical light products as soon as the quantity of products placed on the market reaches 200 000 units per year, so a very low volume for a manufacturer/importer.
Each of these individual substances must be registered separately by the manufacturer depending upon the total number of lightsticks / light products manufactured and then imported into Europe! It is with the distributors and/or end users that the obligation is upon, to ensure the products imported and/or sold are compliant and that the manufacturer meets the regulations set out in REACH. Cyalume products meet these standards.
As a compliant manufacturer and distributor of chemiluminescent articles with regards to REACH, the articles we supply you with do not contain any substances of very high concern (SVHC). These substances are included in the candidate list of substances subject to special authorization due to their intrinsic properties (e.g. carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic to human reproduction).
Our standard range of products do not contain any phthalates banned on the European market such as Dibutyl Phathalate (DBP) currently used in the manufacture of chemical light devices by other manufacturer outside the EU and the USA.
Our products are totally safe and produce no heat, sparks or flame. Our lightsticks are also ATEX certified and so are safe to use in explosive or confined spaces/areas.
All of our products are made in either the US or in France and are manufactured to ISO 9001 standards.
